Slovakia, sometimes called "Little Big country", offers plenty of places to see and things to do in relatively compact area. With its wild nature, stunning mountains, deep caves, medieval castles and town it will be a perfect destination for every Scout group. One of the places you should visit first is Banská Štiavnica - medieval UNESCO town surrounded by forests, hills and lakes. In the past 2000 years the town was rich and famous for its gold and silver mining industry and nowadays it is on of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovakia. Banská Štiavnica is located in central Slovakia, 120 km from Budapest, 150 km from Bratislava and 200 km from Vienna. There are many possibilities how to spend your time in the town and surroundings. Wander around magical streets, go for a hike, bicycle trip, swim in one of 20 lakes around the town or visit castles, mines or museums. In winter, enjoy ski slopes, cross-country tracks or ice skating. And there is much more to explore.
